I love this… brings back memories of C&H which I absolutely adored growing up. I hope you put up more of B&H. Thank you!
This utterly made my day. Please, please do more. Please.
Hnnnngh…. My nostalgia….
I love Calvin all grown up and Hobbes having adventures with the next generation! Keep them coming! Please!
There’s almost nothing I have enjoyed more this past year than discovering these 4 masterpieces… The nostalgia kicked in immediately followed by THE FEELS! I would be buying (yes, paying for!) Hobbes & Bacon in a heartbeat if it was continued regularly. Like as a tribute series to Bill Watterson. PLEASE!
Thank you so much for doing this. Absolutely love it. Instant Bookmark.
Wish youd continue these.
Love the Hobbes and Bacon strips.
Pity there are only 4 of them I can find.
Are you planing more Hobbes and Bacon ?
^_^ Thanks! It was really heart-warming to read your comic.
P.s.: Would you please allow it to me, to translate it to hungarian language for my website?
You are my hero and it fits perfectly.
That last panel…hobbes is going to show bacon how to play calvinball…ALL THE FEELS!
as a 32 year old man who grew up reading calvin and hobbes, this made me cry. please, I beg you, please make more of these!
Oh so nice! Thank you and please keep it up!
Omg… My childhood so awesome!!! Must have more Hobbes and bacon!
OMGoodness! I just found “Hobbes and Bacon” and I am deeply in LOVE…. ’bout brought me to tears!
Just curious, where did you come up with the name Bacon?
Whoo! i Loves Calvin and Hobbes! Keep making those comics! Don’t stop making them! You’re our new Bill Watterson!
I am just as excited about Hobbes and Bacon, and like the rest of the fans out there, I was also sad when Bill Watterson retired. As an artist I understand why he did so. These tributes are fantastic and I would love to see more. However in respect to Bill Watterson and his views, selling a comic strip such as this would be against in what I understand about Bill Watterson. On the other side, as an artist, and if I was to be approached and asked permission for a continuation to my work I would say yes as long as the story takes on new imagination without contradicting my other works of art. The fact that these are free to view as tribute and respect I would hope Bill Watterson enjoys them as well. Just something to think about.
I wish that Bill Watterson would license it to you (and the person who made those C & H in the real world photoshops).
I understand why he didn’t want to license his work. He didn’t want Calvin, Hobbes or any of his wonderful characters appearing in ads for products he doesn’t even like. Nor did he ever want them printed on underwear. Anything like that would debase and demean his characters and their world.
But your Hobbes and Bacon strips, as well as the Calvin and Hobbes in the Real World pictures, stay true to the meaning and “feel” of Calvin and Hobbes. They subtract nothing, and add something, not defacing but extending it.
Is Bill Watterson still alive? I heard rumors that he’s dead. Can anyone confirm or deny?
If you are still alive, Bill, know that I have always loved your work and respect your decision to end the series. But I cannot see why a few people who understand and respect what you created can’t add something to it, so long as they stay faithful to it.
I did not make the C & H in the real world pics. I don’t even know the person who did.
Watterson named Calvin and Hobbes after theologian John Calvin (who believed in predestination), and philosopher Thomas Hobbes (who had a very cynical view of human nature). Following Watterson, this author named the girl after another famous philosopher, Francis Bacon.
Why him, though? I don’t see how the founder of the scientific method is relevant…and besides, who would name their daughter “Bacon”???
Jo: I’m glad you liked the comics, I like to think Bill Watterson has seen our strips and approves, but who knows. As far as I know, he is very much alive, and even just did some guest art for the strip “Pearls Before Swine” which was pretty great.
As for Bacon, we actually call our niece Bacon, it’s a nickname of course, but it was the inspiration for the name. And it has led some readers to suggest that her name is actually Frances. Which I quite like.
Please keep making more of these!!!
As much as I wish you would do more of these strips, and I do wish you would do more of these strips. If you must stop now I think the end note is perfection. Knowing that Hobbes and Bacon are out there, still playing, warms my heart. Thank you for these strips
As a 13 year old who hasn’t quite grown out of Calvin and Hobbes, this is possibly the best homage comic I could’ve ever read. Thank you so much.
This strip made me actually cry – and I’m 43. Damn you
If you’d continue this I’d be a reader, forever.
41 year old stiff upper-chin Brit in tears. Bless you. x
I always loved Calvin and Hobbes, seeing you continue the comic makes me so happy! I hope you guys come out with another soon. I cried when C & H ended… I will check back every day for more H & B!
I just introduced C&H to my 7 year old daughter. It may be a bit soon for her, but it brings me great joy to hear her reading and laughing at the first ever book. Her favorite line so far is “This smells like bat barf”… I showed her the B&H strips and I could see her little face light up… thank you guys so much. So, so much.
I really wish you hadn’t drawn these. They definitely do not capture the spirit of Calvin & Hobbes; they are depressingly self-referential. What an eyeroller.
Go away, Truth.
Anyone care to discuss what’s really interesting here: the fact that the last panel implies that Susie (and adult Calvin) see Hobbes as a live tiger?
Truth – Troll
Someone – I’m not so sure that Susie and Calvin see Hobbes as a live Tiger, but instead are enjoying watching their daughter play outside and loving Hobbes much the same as when they were younger.
Please come back Tom… tell us more about Bacon….
